Pay by Bank in France for online merchants

Give customers a bank-authorised way to pay. Explore French bank connections, compare EUR payment costs and understand what to check for online orders, business payments and larger purchases.

What is Pay by Bank in France?

Pay by Bank lets a customer approve an online payment directly with their bank through an open banking checkout. They choose their bank and authorise the payment in their banking app or online banking, without entering card details.

In France, bank-transfer payments are commonly described as paiement par virement bancaire. A Pay by Bank checkout connects that payment journey to the purchase: the payment can be associated with an order and its status passed back through your integration.

A manual transfer usually asks the customer to send money using the bank details you provide. When choosing a checkout service, compare how the customer pays, how you confirm the payment and how it is matched to the order.

Bank connections to check for your France checkout

Start with the banks your customers use, then confirm the exact connection, account type and currency for your Wallid setup. French banking groups can have separate regional entities or different personal and business logins.

The bank-account references include Crédit Agricole, Banque Populaire, Caisse d’Epargne, BNP Paribas, Crédit Mutuel, CIC, La Banque Postale, LCL, Société Générale and BoursoBank, alongside other bank connections in the directory.

Compare bank transfers, Wero and card payments in France

The right comparison includes the customer journey and the work needed to confirm and reconcile each payment. A transfer rail, a branded payment scheme and a merchant checkout service can have different fees and operating conditions.

Wallid Pay by BankA bank-authorised checkout connected to your online payment flow.Customer bank availability, merchant eligibility, EUR fees, payment status and the integration for your business.

Wero has taken over from Paylib and is expanding into French online commerce. Pay by Bank describes the broader bank-payment approach; comparing it with Wero does not mean that a Wallid integration enables Wero acceptance.

Pay by Bank fees for EUR payments

Wallid’s published standard fee is 1% + €0.30 per successful EUR payment.

Pay by Bank fees for EUR payments
Payment amountStandard Wallid payment fee
€100€1.30
€1,000€10.30
€10,000€100.30

These examples exclude applicable VAT and any platform fees. Successful refunds are charged separately: the published EUR refund fee is 1% of the refunded amount + €0.30. Confirm the conditions for your setup in Wallid pricing.

A low-cost or free transfer in a customer’s banking app does not establish the price of a merchant checkout service. Compare the complete cost at the same order value and monthly payment volume, including percentage or fixed fees, refunds, platform charges and reconciliation work.

For higher volumes, share your monthly payment count, total EUR value and average order size with Wallid to discuss pricing. A high number of transactions and a high average order value are separate requirements.

Large EUR orders: fees and bank limits

For a larger online order, check both the payment cost and the customer’s ability to approve the amount. At Wallid’s standard EUR rate, a successful €10,000 payment costs €100.30 before applicable VAT or platform charges. Compare that with the actual fixed, capped or percentage rate in each alternative provider’s quote.

French banks apply their own transfer controls. There is no single €100,000 ceiling that establishes the limit for every SEPA Instant payment. The payer’s available balance, per-payment and daily limits, account permissions and the payment service’s conditions still matter.

Before offering bank payment for a large order, confirm the limit for the exact bank account and initiation channel. A bank appearing in the directory does not establish an unlimited checkout amount or remove the bank’s approval requirements.

B2B payments: can the buyer approve from the company account?

For a business order, the person placing the order may not be the person authorised to approve a transfer. Confirm whether the buyer can access the company account and whether another user must validate the payment.

The French catalogue includes personal and business account references, including a separate Ma Banque Enterprise (BNP Paribas) connection and regional business-account options. Check the exact login and account type: a personal connection does not establish that the company’s banking workflow is available.

For wholesale orders, repeat business purchases or an ordering portal, agree how the payment will be linked to the order or invoice and which payment status your team will use before releasing goods. Confirm any additional approval steps with the bank and Wallid before building the customer journey.

SEPA Instant, payment status and access to funds

SEPA Instant is designed to execute euro transfers within seconds, around the clock. A particular Pay by Bank payment still depends on the bank, account and available payment route; payment initiation alone does not establish that the instant scheme is being used.

Check three points for your setup:

Customer approval: the customer authorises the payment with their bank.

Payment status: your integration receives the status used to handle the order.

Access to funds: your business receives and can use the money under the applicable bank, route and provider conditions.

Confirm how these stages work for your French customer banks and integration. An approved payment instruction and a provider’s payout schedule should each be checked before you set fulfilment rules.

France Pay by Bank questions

Use the directory to identify the bank and any regional or account-specific connection. Then confirm availability for your Wallid setup, including whether the customer uses a personal or business account. A banking group name alone does not establish every account or login is available.

Pay by Bank is a broader way of accepting bank-authorised payments. Wero is a particular wallet and payment scheme, and has taken over from Paylib. Its French merchant rollout and acceptance conditions are separate from a Wallid Pay by Bank integration.

A bank’s charge for sending a transfer and a provider’s charge for a merchant checkout are different prices. A checkout service can connect customer authorisation, payment status and the online order. Compare your bank’s charges alongside the provider’s full commercial terms.

Check the payer’s bank and account limits, available balance, approval rights and the conditions of your payment route. There is no universal Wallid payment maximum established by this directory. Confirm the intended amount for your setup before offering it at checkout.

Business-account references are identified separately in the catalogue. The buyer must have the necessary bank permissions, and any additional company approval must work with the payment journey. Confirm the exact account connection and authorisation process with Wallid.

Availability depends on merchant review, products, selling markets and the payment route. A listed bank does not establish acceptance of a business category. Review Wallid’s information for higher-risk merchants and ask us to confirm your business before integration.

Timing depends on the bank, payment route and provider conditions. SEPA Instant’s transfer speed does not establish the payout terms for every merchant service. Confirm payment status and funds availability for your Wallid setup.

Wallid’s published standard EUR fee for a successful refund is 1% of the refunded amount + €0.30, charged separately from the original payment. Applicable VAT, platform charges and refund availability should be confirmed for your setup.
