Pay by Bank in the Netherlands for online merchants
Let customers authorise a bank payment and connect it to their order. Explore Pay by Bank alongside iDEAL | Wero, check account availability and find the right Wallid integration for your business.
What is Pay by Bank?
Pay by Bank uses open banking to initiate a payment from a customer’s bank account. The customer selects their bank and authorises the payment in its app or online banking service.
For a merchant, the payment journey can be linked to the checkout and order status. This differs from displaying an IBAN and asking customers to create a separate manual transfer.

Looking for an iDEAL alternative?
There are two different questions: what happens as iDEAL migrates to Wero, and whether another bank-payment option fits your checkout.
iDEAL is transitioning to Wero. Open banking Pay by Bank is a separate option to assess. A Pay by Bank integration does not automatically provide iDEAL or Wero acceptance.
| Option | What to compare |
|---|---|
| iDEAL | Wero | Your provider’s integration, migration, fees and features |
| Open banking Pay by Bank | Customer banks and accounts, authorisation, payment status and integration |
| Manual bank transfer | Bank charges, payment references and matching funds to orders |
| SEPA Instant | The accounts and route that support instant euro transfers, separately from checkout functionality |
Compare the complete service and total cost. A percentage-based Pay by Bank rate is not automatically cheaper than a fixed iDEAL or Wero fee.
Pay by Bank fees
Wallid’s published standard EUR rate is 1% + €0.30 per successful payment.
| Payment amount | Standard Wallid transaction fee |
|---|---|
| €100 | €1.30 |
| €1,000 | €10.30 |
| €10,000 | €100.30 |
Applicable VAT and platform fees are additional. Successful refunds are charged separately. See current pricing and conditions, including volume enquiries.
Compare the same basket value and monthly volume, accounting for caps, subscriptions and refunds. For high monthly volumes, share your payment count and average order value when requesting commercial terms.
Large EUR payments: costs and bank limits
At Wallid’s standard EUR rate, a €10,000 payment costs €100.30 before applicable VAT and platform fees. For a high-value order, compare this with your provider’s fixed or percentage-based iDEAL | Wero fee and manual-transfer charges.
For customers paying from a Netherlands account, confirm the payment-initiation limit, daily allowance and authorisation steps for their exact bank connection. The directory’s personal/business labels do not establish a maximum checkout amount.
Business accounts for B2B payments in the Netherlands
Business-account entries in the Netherlands directory include ING Wholesale Banking (InsideBusiness) and Handelsbanken Corporate. Confirm the customer’s account, permissions and any additional authorisation steps during onboarding.
For store operations, explore Shopify reconciliation.
Payment approval and funds availability
Customer authorisation, confirmed payment status and funds arriving are different events. Timing depends on the banks, route and setup; some EUR payments take longer than an instant journey.
Check the status your integration requires before marking an order paid or releasing goods. See the Wallid operational FAQ.
